Community Connection and Laughter: A Cozy Day In with El Pinoy Care

Our recent community gathering, originally planned for Bicentennial Park at Sydney Olympic Park, was relocated to our Community Hub due to the chilly weather and recent illnesses among some clients. While we missed the fresh air and scenery, the indoor setting turned out to be a heartwarming success!

We brought together a small but vibrant group of our clients, joined by a few of our wonderful support workers. The main activity for the day was in-house bingo, led by the ever-enthusiastic Janis, who—as always—brought positive energy and made sure everyone felt included and engaged throughout the event.

Bingo, Banter, and Beautiful Moments

The room was full of conversation and laughter. Mr. R. (NDIS participant) was especially vocal in his appreciation of the day, saying he was glad the event wasn’t cancelled and had instead been moved indoors. His sister even called afterward to share how much it meant to him.

Mr. E., one of our aged care clients, attended with his wife and their friend Barbara (name changed for privacy). The trio brought a lovely family spirit to the event and had a great time cheering each other on during the bingo rounds.

Ms. C., another aged care client, won the very first round and was so thrilled she asked to keep playing! Her daughter had mentioned that Ms. C. can sometimes feel overwhelmed in larger crowds, but she was clearly at ease—chatting away and enjoying herself the entire time. Before leaving, she made sure to personally say goodbye to everyone and even suggested a picnic for our next get-together.

Then there was Mr. F., one of our more talkative participants (his wife claims he never stops!). Although he’d recently had a flu shot and had temporarily lost his voice—much to her amusement—he still managed to share a few cheeky words. After a streak of bad bingo luck, he joked,

“Don’t worry, I’m just letting everyone else win first!”

Before finally winning a round himself!

While we may have swapped the park for our Community Hub this time, the warmth, connection, and shared joy were just as strong. This event reminded us that community isn’t about the location—it’s about the people, the stories, and the care we bring to one another.

We’re already looking forward to our next gathering, and we’re so grateful to everyone who joined us.

From all of us at El Pinoy Care Services, thank you for being part of our growing community of care.
